Who We Are

The Environmental Committee studies topics and advocates on the basis of the state and national Leagues’ public policy positions on natural resources/environmental topics.

What We Do

Those positions speak about air, land, and water resources, dealing with such subjects as coal, hazardous waste management, land-use and growth management, solid waste management, transportation, and climate change.

What We’re Keeping an Eye On

In 2020-21 the Env’l Committee reviewed the set of 850 recommendations dealing with climate change drafted by the county’s community-based workgroups and followed up with an examination of the 87 suggested strategies based upon the workgroups’ recommendations. The committee prepared a fact sheet summarizing the draft Climate Action Plan for April discussion groups. The committee will monitor public comment on the draft plan and stay informed of the county’s progress in arriving at a final plan. The committee will also review the Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan 2020 – 2029 which will be submitted to the state this spring.
